Same-Day and Emergency Roof Repair in Pasadena, CA

For same-day roof repair in Pasadena, call our 24/7 emergency line at (877) 557-7778: you get a fast response, with same-day visits when crews are available. We can’t promise a same-day visit on every call, and after a citywide windstorm like the one that hit Pasadena overnight on November 30, 2011, the wait can be longer.

An emergency roof repair happens in two stages. First, the crew stops the water with a tarp or temporary sealing. Then, once the roof is dry and the materials are on hand, we make the permanent repair. For leaks that can wait for a scheduled visit, see roof repair in Pasadena; for a new roof, see our Pasadena roofing company page.

What happens on a same-day or emergency roof repair call in Pasadena

  • The call. Our emergency line is answered 24/7. We ask where water is coming in, what kind of roof you have (clay tile, shingle, or flat), and whether a tree limb or debris has hit it, then set the fastest visit we can. Same-day visits happen when a crew is available.
  • Before the crew arrives. Stay off the roof. Move furniture and electronics away from the leak, put a container under drips, and switch off any circuit with water near a light fixture if you can do it safely. Take photos of the damage for your insurer.
  • Temporary protection. The crew covers the damaged area with a tarp fastened to the roof, or seals small openings and failed seams with temporary materials, so the house stays dry until the permanent repair. See temporary tarping and sealing.
  • The permanent repair. We inspect the damage, give you a written estimate, and replace the broken tile, shingles, flashing, or flat roof membrane. If that work needs a permit, the agency that issues it depends on which side of the city line the house is on, as explained below. More on emergency roof repairs.

The December 2011 and January 2025 windstorms in Pasadena

The windstorm of November 30 to December 1, 2011 shows what a wind event can do to Pasadena roofs. Gusts of roughly 72 to 82 mph hit the city overnight, and the City Manager declared a local emergency at 1:30 a.m. on December 1. The city’s report counted 50 housing units red-tagged and 31 structures yellow-tagged. NBC Los Angeles described Pasadena as the heaviest-hit area, with about 200 buildings damaged.

On January 7, 2025, a Santa Ana wind event brought gusts reported up to 100 mph at the Mount Lukens Truck Trail north of La Cañada Flintridge, after forecasts had called for 60 to 80 mph. The same wind drove the Eaton Fire, which started at 6:18 p.m. near Altadena Drive and Midwick Drive and was not contained until January 31.

After events like these, roof damage is spread across the city at once. Temporary protection comes first for as many houses as possible, and permanent repairs follow in the days and weeks after. That is why we describe our response as fast, with same-day visits when crews are available, instead of promising a time.

Tarping and temporary sealing on tile, shingle, and flat roofs

How a roof is protected depends on what it is made of, and Pasadena has all three common types: clay tile on its Spanish Colonial and Mediterranean Revival houses, shingle on bungalows and ranch houses, and flat or low-slope roofs on mid-century houses, additions, and commercial buildings.

  • Clay tile. Tile cracks underfoot, so the crew steps carefully, removes broken pieces, and lays the tarp so it does not pull more tiles loose. Loose branches come off before the tarp goes on.
  • Shingle. The tarp runs up and over the ridge where possible and is held with wood battens, so wind cannot get under the edge.
  • Flat and low-slope. Small punctures and open seams can be sealed in place, and roof drains are cleared so water leaves the roof instead of ponding against the damage.

A tarp is a stopgap. It keeps water out until the permanent repair, and the sooner that repair is scheduled, the less time wind has to work the cover loose.

Inside Pasadena city limits or in unincorporated Altadena

Pasadena is an independent charter city with its own Building & Safety Division, so it is not under the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety (LADBS) or LA County Public Works. Altadena, directly north, is unincorporated Los Angeles County, and permits there come from the County. After an emergency repair, the permit for the permanent work depends on which side of that line the house is on.

Emergency roof repair questions from Pasadena homeowners and renters

Can you guarantee same-day roof repair in Pasadena?

No, and we don’t promise it. You get a fast response, with same-day visits when crews are available. After a citywide windstorm, many roofs need help at the same time, and calls can keep coming in for days. On days like that, the first visit is for temporary protection, and permanent repairs are scheduled after that.

Yes. The emergency line, (877) 557-7778, is answered 24 hours a day, seven days a week; our regular hours run Sunday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Night calls matter here: the worst of the 2011 windstorm hit Pasadena between about 11 p.m. and 8 a.m. If the wind is still strong, the first steps happen inside the house, and the tarp goes on once it is safe to work on the roof.

No. Stay off the roof and keep people out of the rooms under the impact. Moving a heavy limb can open the hole wider or bring down more tile, and wet roofs are slick. In Pasadena’s 2011 windstorm, about 1,000 street trees fell or were compromised, and the roofs of the Hill Avenue and Lamanda Park libraries were damaged.

Yes. CAL FIRE counted 1,076 structures damaged, separate from the 9,419 destroyed, and Upper Hastings Ranch alone had more than 70 homes damaged or destroyed, according to local news coverage. The same January 7 wind event passed over those roofs, so a roof can have wind damage as well as heat damage. Ash and debris left in gutters and roof drains can also hold water in the next storm.

Call your landlord or property manager first, since the owner has to approve roof work. That situation is common in Pasadena, where 33,084 of 57,131 occupied housing units are rented (Census ACS 2023). While you wait, protect your belongings, put a container under the drip, and take photos of the leak and any damage for the owner and their insurer.
